There may be some good news for tablet fans that are looking to see a little competition for the iPad.  It appears that HP has a tablet device listed, albeit obscurely, on their website under the name Slate 500.

A story ran today through IDG News about the HP page that is listing the device.  The Slate 500 is listed as a Windows 7 Premium device with an 8.9” screen.  It further suggests that it will have two cameras (a still camera and a video camera) and a pen input device.  The folks at IGN News go on to explain that the device is also listed as being Energy Star qualified on HP’s site and that the Energy Star Website discloses the that the device runs a 1.6GHz processor.

In other interesting and perhaps related news, it appears that HP has also applied for a patent for the term Palmpad.  This could signify the potential release of a WebOS tablet device, which many in the tech world have been speculating to be one of the reasons that HP purchased Palm earlier in 2010.  There are a number of people that are longing to see WebOS running a tablet.  This might just be the answer to that request.  We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.

What do you think about the possibility of HP revitalizing what we thought was a dead HP Slate?  Would you rather see HP get into the tablet game with a Windows, Android or WebOS device?  Leave us your feedback and let us know your opinion.
