Apple Schedules Mac Announcement for 10/20 and Shows Mobile Isn’t All They’re Working on

Apple is back in the news today after announcing their plans to hold a Mac event on October 20th.  We don’t have a lot of details except that it is focused on Mac and the big logo they created makes us think that a new Mac OS is in the works.

The most recent Mac OS, 10.6 is known as Snow Leopard.  OS X 10.7 would be the next in line.  The logo appears to have a picture of a Lion front and center.  We have very few additional details at this time, but expect to get the entire scoop on the 20th.

New Mobile Market Share Numbers Are In Showing Google Is On the Rise

The newest ComScore numbers arrived late last week and the results might be considered a little surprising. While everyone knows that Android is taking the mobile space by storm in recent months, I don’t know that anyone expected to see Apple lose market share around the release of their newest iPhone.

But, lose they did… ComScore shows Apple lost 1.3%, RIM dropped 1.8% and Microsoft dove 2.2%. Conversely, Android showed a 5% increase in total market share during the month of July. The final player, Palm, showed neither an increase or a decrease as they stayed exactly even.

Apple iOS 4.1 Update is Now Available

For those of you experiencing problems with your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3G, the long wait for a solution might be over.  Apple has rolled out their iOS 4.1 update which, according to Steve Jobs in his Keynote last week, should fix some of the bugs you’ve been experiencing.

The update, along with many new features, is supposed to fix such bugs as performance slow downs on the 3G and 3GS models, as well as the proximity sensor on the iPhone 4.  Some of the new features include High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos and Game Center.

Apple Releases and Updates Products Like Crazy at 9/1 Event

Today was a big day for Apple and for folks that own any of Apple’s mobile devices.  It seems like just about everything was the recipient of an improvement or upgrade in some way or another.  So let’s go through the list of updates and upgrades and see if we can make sense of it all.

September 1, 2010 – Another Big Day for Apple

September is here, or it will be in a few hours.  In the tech world, September means a number of things, including another big Apple Keynote with what are sure to be some exciting announcements.

Apple was already delivered one of the big announcements when they announced on Tuesday, August 31st that they would be streaming their Keynote event online.  You can access the live stream through Apple’s site (http://www.apple.com), but you must have Apple hardware to view the event.  You can use a Mac running OS X version 10.6 or an iPhone or iPod Touch running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad.

Apple Releases iOS 4.0.2 to Patch Security Vulnerability

To jailbreak your iPhone or not to jailbreak your iPhone…that is the question.  Unless you have already upgraded to the recently released iOS version 4.0.2, in which case the answer is not to jailbreak.

About a week or so ago, a hacker group known as the iPhone Dev Team launched a site called Jailbreakme.com.  The site can be accessed from your iPhone or iPod Touch allowing you to jailbreak your phone with a simple swipe of the screen.  Unfortunately, within a few days of the launch, the tech community became aware of the fact that this jailbreak took advantage of a security loophole caused by a PDF vulnerability.  This made the once excruciating jailbreaking process very easy.

More John Gruber Rumors, This Time Focused on the iPhone 4

Just yesterday, we ran a post about some big time rumors originating from Apple expert John Gruber of Daring Fireball.  He spoke very confidently about a soon to be launched next generation iPod Touch.  Well, today he went even bigger!

Since the iPhone was released in 2007 with AT&T, rumors have been flying about the potential of a CDMA iPhone at Verizon.  Gruber suggested today that he is very confident that a CDMA iPhone is nearing final production stages, which could mean that in January 2011 a Verizon iPhone could be a significant possibility.  However, confidence in a CDMA iPhone doesn’t absolutely mean we’ll see the product at Verizon.  Even Gruber is hesitant to call that a sure thing.

John Gruber, Daring Fireball blogger and podcaster most known for his ability to get early information on Apple plans and products, is at it again.

Today, on his blog, Daring Fireball, he wrote a post that was linked to an article written about the soon to release Dell Streak which outlined pricing information. In Gruber’s post, he indicated that the Streak is priced too high and that the iPod Touch is a better deal. He suggests that Apple will release the new iPod Touch in a few weeks and that it will have the same Retina Display as the iPhone 4, including dual, count them, two cameras.
