Apple iOS 4.1 Update is Now Available

For those of you experiencing problems with your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3G, the long wait for a solution might be over.  Apple has rolled out their iOS 4.1 update which, according to Steve Jobs in his Keynote last week, should fix some of the bugs you’ve been experiencing.

The update, along with many new features, is supposed to fix such bugs as performance slow downs on the 3G and 3GS models, as well as the proximity sensor on the iPhone 4.  Some of the new features include High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos and Game Center.

September 1, 2010 – Another Big Day for Apple

September is here, or it will be in a few hours.  In the tech world, September means a number of things, including another big Apple Keynote with what are sure to be some exciting announcements.

Apple was already delivered one of the big announcements when they announced on Tuesday, August 31st that they would be streaming their Keynote event online.  You can access the live stream through Apple’s site (http://www.apple.com), but you must have Apple hardware to view the event.  You can use a Mac running OS X version 10.6 or an iPhone or iPod Touch running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad.

More John Gruber Rumors, This Time Focused on the iPhone 4

Just yesterday, we ran a post about some big time rumors originating from Apple expert John Gruber of Daring Fireball.  He spoke very confidently about a soon to be launched next generation iPod Touch.  Well, today he went even bigger!

Since the iPhone was released in 2007 with AT&T, rumors have been flying about the potential of a CDMA iPhone at Verizon.  Gruber suggested today that he is very confident that a CDMA iPhone is nearing final production stages, which could mean that in January 2011 a Verizon iPhone could be a significant possibility.  However, confidence in a CDMA iPhone doesn’t absolutely mean we’ll see the product at Verizon.  Even Gruber is hesitant to call that a sure thing.

Apple held its recently scheduled press conference today to discuss the controversy over the three week old iPhone 4.  It had been discovered and widely discussed that the iPhone 4 loses signal strength when held in a certain way.  As is generally the case with news about Apple, all other discussions were put on hold while this controversy festered for the last 22 days.

Apple Schedules Press Conference to Discuss iPhone 4

Perhaps you’ve heard that there might be some problems with Apple’s new iPhone 4?  You’d have to have been hiding under a pretty large rock to have missed all of the complaining and protesting about the new miracle antenna that doesn’t seem to allow some to maintain signal strength if they hold the phone a certain way.

Well, Apple might just be close to admitting that there is indeed a problem as they have scheduled a press conference for 10AM PST on Friday the 16th of July.  The only details they have released are the time, day, and that the topic is the iPhone 4.

Early iPhone 4 Sales Numbers Show Huge Success

After three days, it’s probably safe to say that the iPhone 4 can be considered a tremendous success for Apple.  On Monday, June 28th, Apple announced that its first three days of sales, from Thursday, June 24th through Saturday June 26th top 1.7 million units sold.

We were all wowed by the enormous sales of the iPad when 80 days into their product sales cycle they announced they had sold 3 million units.  So the iPhone 4 has sold more than half of that in 3 days?  Wow!  Now, that’s moving product.

Apple Addresses the iPhone 4 Signal Degradation Problem

As we reported on Wednesday, iPhone 4 owners have been having problems with signal degradation when using the phone.  Reportedly, in some cases reception gets so bad that  the phone drops calls and can’t connect to the internet.  Apple put out a statement addressing this issue today.

Apple’s statement said that the problem exists when the phone is held in the lower left corner in such a way that both sides of the black strip in the metal band is covered.  The trick, they say, is to change your grip to an alternative position on the phone so that is not a problem.  Alternatively, you can buy one of the many cases that are available for the phone.  It is worth noting that Apple did produce their own bumper case which is designed to cover the metal band around the phone.  Does that mean they knew about the problem prior to launch?

Complaints About iPhone 4 Issues Gaining Traction

There are always problems when new devices are released to the public, just ask HTC with their recent EVO 4G issues.  Apple has had issues in the past, but generally they avoid a lot of the big dust ups that can cause so many headaches.  The iPhone 4 release has the potential to be a little different.
