Samsung Galaxy Tab is Creating Excitement

Last week, Samsung unveiled their newest baby, the Samsung Galaxy Tab.  It’s patterned after their Galaxy line of Mobile phone devices, but it’s a 7” touchscreen tablet with a TFT capacitive touch display rocking a 600 x 1024 resolution.  Their announcement came at the IFA conference in Berlin and the buzz has gone nonstop since that time.

There are now rumors that Samsung might be putting on a US press conference to introduce the device near the end of next week.  Not sure this is necessary, as we all know just about all we need to know about this device.  The bottom line is that I want one and this thing has the real chance of rivaling the iPad.  It actually brings to the table, some options that the iPad doesn’t yet.

Mass Froyo Updates Rumored for Next Week

Potential good news for all you Android users out there.  It appears we might be on the verge of a mass rollout of Froyo, Google’s Android 2.2 OS release, as early as next week for some models.

This has long been rumored, but many are suggesting that it has now been confirmed that the original Motorola Droid from Verizon and the recently launched Sprint HTC Evo 4G will be the first two to receive the over the air update.

Some Receive the Droid X Ahead of Scheduled Launch

Reportedly, a couple of hundred Droid X phones have ended up in the hands of some lucky folks almost a week ahead of schedule.  The only problem was that these fortunate individuals were unable to activate their phones because Verizon wasn’t ready.

The new Motorola Droid X, Verizon’s answer to Sprint’s EVO 4G, is scheduled to launch on the 15th of July.  We’re not quite sure how the handsets got out to people early, but Verizon was evidently not prepared for the early release either.  On Friday, however, they were able to fix the activation issue and now all of the early release phones can be activated.

Android Sales Outpacing Production

Android phones are very popular and it seems like carriers are having difficulty keeping them on the shelves.  The last two major Android releases have been consistently out-of-stock since their release and it is unclear when we’ll see appropriate quantities necessary to meet current demand.

The other day, we reported that Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G sold out only days after its initial release to the public.  The device, according to Sprint, set new release sales records in the first full day it was available.

HTC EVO Breaks Sprint Records and Then Goes Out of Stock

Sprint HTC EVO 4G

Sprint launched the HTC EVO 4G on Friday June 4th.  They experienced some immediate problems during and after the launch with activation, with the phone reading from and writing to SD cards and many reported slower than expected 4G speeds.  In spite of all that, Sprint reports that the HTC EVO has broken all kinds of sales records and has taken Palm Pre’s spot as the highest selling Sprint phone launch to date.  In fact, it sold so well, that we are now hearing reports that you can’t get the phone anywhere.  It is reportedly out of stock online and in retail stores across the country.  Sprint is saying on their site that we can expect to see more in stock later this week.

Google Changing Nexus One Distribution Model Due to Sluggish Sales

So, I guess Google doesn’t get everything right.  Well, we kind of already knew that because of the whole privacy issue after the Google Buzz launch, and then again when they admitted  they were taking pictures of all our houses and stealing data from our home WIFI connections, “by accident”, as they were mapping all the streets in the world, but those are both entirely different stories.

Sprint HTC EVO 4G Appears Ready to Release in June

Now that the Droid Incredible launch is over, we look forward to one of the next two major releases expected for June. Most of us know about the potential for an iPhone 4G launch possibly in June, but the other big 4G launch is the Sprint EVO. Likely release dates mentioned are June 6th or June 13th.
