New Mobile Market Share Numbers Are In Showing Google Is On the Rise

The newest ComScore numbers arrived late last week and the results might be considered a little surprising. While everyone knows that Android is taking the mobile space by storm in recent months, I don’t know that anyone expected to see Apple lose market share around the release of their newest iPhone.

But, lose they did… ComScore shows Apple lost 1.3%, RIM dropped 1.8% and Microsoft dove 2.2%. Conversely, Android showed a 5% increase in total market share during the month of July. The final player, Palm, showed neither an increase or a decrease as they stayed exactly even.

In April, Microsoft introduced a couple of new feature phones known as Kin.  These phones were geared toward the younger teen-age generation and were based on the idea of the user having all of their social and messaging info right at their finger tips.

Dell Brings the Thunder…and the Lightning too

Dell is set to release what could be two pretty impressive phones and guess what they are calling them.  That’s right, the Lightening is Dell’s Windows Phone 7 device and the Thunder will be running Android 2.1.

The Lightning comes equipped with a 4.1” WVGA OLED display on a portrait slide out device.  It has a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor with 512 MB of RAM.  It has a 5 megapixel camera and 8 GB of storage.  So what does this mean for you?  Well, it means fast processing speeds, a decent camera, a large and beautiful screen and decent storage; although it is unclear whether or not storage can be upgraded as it is supported by a MicroSD card.  These are generally able to be changed out, but no mention was made in this case.  The Lightning has many other goodies including an FM radio and Flash support.
